Leah Deragon is the Director of Mission and Impact and co-founder of Birth Roots, a non-profit organization in Portland, Maine, providing non-clinical, community-based support and education beginning in pregnancy and continuing through early parenthood. She has been teaching relationship-centered childbirth education and facilitating postnatal classes for over two decades. Birth Roots was launched in 2004 when the co-founders observed the profound isolation of new parents and the unmet need for any meaningful attention to, or even language for, the social, and not just medical, care of perinatal parents. The work of Birth Roots has altered the trajectory of a generation of families and in many ways has played a role in redefining cultural expectations of the perinatal period. Leah is also the oldest daughter of Pam Leo, author of Connection Parenting.
