Parenting As A Spiritual Practice – A TED Talk
Integral Spotlight: Parenting as a Spiritual Practice | Miriam Mason Martineau from Integral Life on Vimeo.
Being the very best parent you can possibly be: what could possibly be more important? In this special Integral Spotlight presentation, Miriam Mason Martineau talks about the many gifts that come from an integral approach to parenting. Miriam has spent 20 years exploring this territory as a researcher, integral practitioner, and mother, and has found that the practice of parenting undergoes a radical shift when placed in an integral evolutionary context. This new integral context helps you to see more and connect more with your child’s heart, mind, and experience; to take your child’s perspective and see the world through his or her eyes; to better understand and nurture your child’s growth and development; and to find the harmonious balance between being and becoming that your child needs to truly flourish. Most importantly, this integral approach to parenting will help you to forge a lifelong bond with your child, based on unwavering respect, dignity, and compassion.
As parents, we aspire to help our children become as healthy, happy, and whole as they can possibly be, in every aspect of their lives. Therefore, it’s critical that we have the very best understanding of health, happiness, and wholeness available to us. There has never been an examination of human development, experience, and potential more comprehensively detailed than the integral approach. And it’s hard to think of a more important, more fundamental, or more needed application of integral thought than to parenting. After all, if you’re going to bring a new human being into the world, you should probably learn what they’re made of, how they work, and how they thrive.
Ladies and gentlemen, moms and dads, sons and daughters: it is our honor to present our very good friend, Miriam Mason Martineau.
