Gena Kirby is on a mission. Gena wants moms to know what they are not being told and that they are not alone. On any given day she is either sharing information about gentle birth and parents right toinformed consent on her radio program, or sharing tips on babywearingon her tv show.
She might be teaching free classes on breastfeeding or circumcision or showing a doula client how to nurse at the hospital. She may be blogging about the newest information on vbacs (vaginal birth after cesarean) or writting about non-violent parenting for a local magazine or syndicated blog. Gena is a tireless advocate for mothers, babies, parents and the people that love them.
Gena is a Doula, a childbirth educator, a La Leche League InternationalBreastfeeding Peer Counselor, wife and a mother of three children under 9 years old.
She serves on the Board of Directors of Attachment Parenting International and is the ex President of Texans for Midwifery. This year she is heading the Improving Birth National Rally for Change-Austin, Texas.
Gena also travels the United States teaching Doulas, Midwives and parents about how to use the Rebozo (the traditional Mexican shawl) to provide relaxation comfort and strength in labor. Midwives in Mexico have been using the Rebozo for centuries, it is Gena’s passion to share a part of her heritage with people all over the country. Recent workshops have been held in Nashville, Tennessee. Atlanta, Georgia. Houston, Texas. San Antonio, Texas. San Francisco, Calif. Santa Cruz, Calif. Los Angeles, Calif. She is available to travel out to your group (whether you be a group of likeminded parents/doulas or midwives) to share this workshop. She is also available to teach private (one-on-one) classes in your home or office. Classes include Infant Care 101/Babu Wearing for Beginners HOW & WHY/Due in Days 6 hour Crash Course Childbirth Education, and INTRO to Breastfeeding and more. Gena is also the founder of Austin Birth Advocates & is a member of numerous local advocacy groups. Last October Gena directed and acted in BIRTH the play by Karen Brody at the Blue Theatre in Austin Texas.
